Qualifications

Fred Marchildon is an MBA graduate of McMaster University with over 30 years of business experience. He is a successful insurance and retirement income specialist and a personal financial advisor.

After a rewarding career with Dofasco Inc in Hamilton, Fred joined GIC Financial Services in 2004 and was appointed  Managing Director in 2006.  He became a Managing Partner and Vice President in 2009.  Fred served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Employees of Dofasco (Hamilton) Credit Union. He served on the Advisory Committee of the Deposit Insurance Corporation of Ontario refining best practices for financial institutions. Fred was a past Director on the Board of Directors of Catholic Family Services of Hamilton. He is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Golden Horseshoe Credit Union Ltd and volunteers his free time and resources to charitable causes.

Fred’s career at Dofasco and his network of contacts across the company means Fred has easy access to resources and is thoroughly familiar with the Dofasco pension system, the Fund, Fund 2, SRIP, benefits and Dofasco's retirement allowance.  Fred works with the Golden Horseshoe Credit Union and its members.  As a result of this partnership close to 6,000 Dofasco employees have received practical and valuable information from Fred to assist them with retirement planning.

Investment Philosophy

Fred has deep roots in the community and a great appreciation for the issues facing families. He has always believed that what the majority of hardworking families want is to improve the quality of life for themselves and their family. With respect to investment advice and retirement planning people want low-risk and reasonably priced solutions, honest advice and they want to work with someone they can trust. Fred delivers this everyday to his clients not because it would provide him an advantage, although it will. He has done this and will continue to do this for the fundamental reason that it is the right thing to do. That’s what will continue to set Fred apart from other financial advisors.

Personal

Fred lives in Hamilton, Ontario with his wife Karen and their four children. Fred’s interests include aviation; he is a seasoned pilot with a multi-engine rating and floats endorsement. As a family the Marchildon’s enjoy theatre, sports and outdoor activities.
